If his reply is negative, he shall advise the employee of his right to carry his grievance to the second step. * Step II If the grievance cannot be settled at the first step and the employee desires to pursue the matter, the grievance will be presented to the employee's department head. The grievance need not be in writing. It will be answered by the department head within two working days after its presentation. If the answer is negative, the department head will inform the employee of his right to carry his grievance to the third step. Step III If the grievance is not settled at the department head level, the employee may present the grievance to the Institutional Grievance Panel. The Institutional Grievance Panel must render its decision within five days after the grievance has been submitted. Step IV If the grievance is not settled by the Panel to the satisfaction of the employee, the employee may present his grievance, along with the recommendations of the Grievance Panel, to the Director of Personnel. The Director of Personnel must render a decision in writing within three working days. Step V If the employee remains dissatisfied with the disposition of his grievance, he may refer the matter in writing to the Vice President and Treasurer. The Vice President must respond within five working days. Step VI If the employee remains dissatisfied with the findings of the Vice President and Treasurer, he may refer the matter in writing to the President's office. The President must render a decision within ten working days after the receipt of the Grievance. This decision will be considered as final disposition of the matter. *A representative of the Department of Personnel will assist the employee in preparing a written statement and will accompany the employee through the grievance procedure, if it is so desired. An employee with a grievance may choose to bring another employee with him at any and all stages of the grievance procedure. The Medical University will place a limit on the times that the same individual may be used in presenting another employee's grievance.
