The Board convened with the following members: Dr. Stanley
C. Baker, Jr., Vice Chairman; Mr. Melvyn Berlinsky, Mr. Walter
Brown, Dr. Charles B. Hanna, Ms. Dorothy A. Manigault, Dr. Conyers
O'Bryan, Jr., Dr. Harrison L. Peeples, Dr. JohnM. Pratt, Dr. Thomas
C. Rowland, Jr., Mr. Phillip Sasser, Mr. Allan E. Stalvey, and
Representative David 0. Hawkins.
Others present were: Dr. James B. Edwards, President; Mr. Stephen
L. Jones, Executive Assistant to the President; Dr. Gilbert
Bradham, Vice President for Clinical Affairs; Dr. Marcus Newberry,
Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. J. William Smith, Vice
President for Administration; and Mr. Marion E. Woodbury, Vice
President for Finance. Also in attendance were Mr. William
M. Matthew, Dr. William A. McLees, Mr. JohnM. Milkereit, Mr. Hugh
Faulkner, Dr. Lynn Blake, Mr. Howard Lundy, Ms. Mary Anne Willson,
Ms. Elaine Conley, Mr. Tom Moore, Dr. Allen Johnson, Mr. Stuart
Smith, Mr. James Salvo, Dr. Jim Martin, Ms. Nancy Ravenel, Mr. John
Birchfield, Dr. Sam Spicer, Dr. Monica Hamill, Mr. Chuck Krecklow,
and Dr. William Groves.
The following deans were present: Dr. William Golod, College
of Pharmacy; Dr. Arthur Haisten, College of Dental Medicine;
Dr. Faith Hohloch, Acting Dean, College of Nursing; Dr. Benjamin
Lawson, College of Allied Health Sciences; and Dr. John Zemp,
College of Graduate Studies.
In the absence of Chairman John L. Pressly, Dr. Stanley C. Baker,
Jr., Vice Chairman, presided over the meeting. Dr. Baker announced
that Mr. Pressly was ill and had been in the hospital, and that
the MUSC Board of Trustees and Administration had sent a floral
rememberance to him. Dr. Baker conveyed Mr. Pressly's appreciation
to all for their thoughtfulness.
