Description	Carbolic acid, so called, is not an acid but an alcohol, and Bacteria will live in alcohol for months. Nedwetsky made experiments on Bacteria in 1872, and found that they lived in strong solutions of carbolic acid, too strong to be used upon sick person. Calomel and quinine also did not kill them, nor opium, nor nux vomica+ADs- while dilute acids, nitric, sulphuric muriatic and extr. sulph. tartaric acid killed them in 5 per cent. solution. Tannin and gallic acid are also efficient germicides. Corrosive sublimate 1 to 20,000 parts of water is safe and glood+ADs- also iodine 1 part to 5,000 of water and bromine 1 to 1,500 of water. Turpentine, which has always had an approved reputation against puerperal fever is active against Bacteria in 1 part to 70,000. Tthe oils of peppermint and coves are almost equally efficient.'
