June 23rd 1832 Dear Sir, The cholera having made its appearance in Canada, and there being no little excitement among our cities in relation to its probable introduction here, I deem it my duty, in addition to the enforcement of the ordinary precautionary measures, to ascertain and enforce all such other measures as may be necessary either to prevent its access, or to mitigate its violence and arrest its progress, should it unfortunately make its appearance in our city. I cannot doubt, from the well known patriotism of the Medical Society, that they will cheerfully cooperate with the city authorities in preventing the visitation of this terrible pestilence: and I have therefore to request that you will convent that Society on Monday next, for the purpose of considering and reporting such [illegible] as they may deem most advisable and efficient to preserve the health of the city, or to prevent the spread of the cholera, should it break out amongst us. The people expect speedy and decisive action upon this subject by the council, but that body cannot well act without the advice and opinion of the Medical Society. I trust therefore
