The regular meeting of the Medical Society of South Carolina was called
to order by the President, Dr C. Forde Rovers, at 7:00PM, Tuesday ,
February 22, 1983 at the Country Club of Charleston.

The following guests were present:
Mr. Sidney Rittenberg and Dr. Margaret A. Metcalf.
The Secretary read the minutes of the annual Meeting, November 23, 1982 and these were accepted as read. 
Dr. Harold S. Pettit, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, presented the following report:
Since the November 19, 1982 meeting of the Medical society of South Carolina, the following are developments within the hospital and action by the Board of Commissioners 
which I believe may be of interest for the February 22, 1983 meeting of the society:

1) The hospital census has returned to normal after the holiday drop
and is presently averaging between 290/300 patients per day. Overall 
hospital operations continue to show a Surplus.

2.) At the annual Heeting of the Board of Commissioners held
January 24, 1983, the current Board officers were reelected, and the
Staff reappointed , to serve for the year 1983.

3)The following changes in Chiefs of Services were made:
a) Dr. Julian T. Buxton Jr. was appointed chief of the Department of Surgery
and Dr. Harry B. Gregorie, was appointed Assistant Chief of the Department to serve for a period of 3 years.

b) Dr. Elias F. Lawandales was appointed chief of the Department of Pediatrics, and Dr. Kenneth H. Herbert appointed Assistant Chief
to serve for a period of 3 years.

c) Dr. Marvin S. Murdaugh was appointed Assistant Chief of the Department of Family Practice, to fill the unexpired term of Dr.
