MINUTES MEDICAL SOCIETY OF SOUTH CAROLINA QUARTERLY MEETING FEBRUARY 23, 1988 The meeting was called to order by Julian T. Buxton, Jr., President. Dr. J. T. Richards, Secretary and Recorder, had to perform emergency surgery in the Roper Operating Room and, therefore, was unable to attend. The minutes of the Annual Meeting held November 24, 1987 were unavailable, and no attendance list was available. It was decided to waive the reading of the minutes and to let those members who were present note so on the roster at the May meeting. The first order of business, Dr. John Arthur Seigling read a eulogy for Dr. Gus Richards. It was voted to place the eulogy in the minutes of the Society and to send a copy to the family. A moment of silence was held in memory of Dr. Richards. Dr. Crymes then gave a report from the Bylaws Committee. He introduced an amendment to the Bylaws of the Society to allow Dr. C. Ford Rivers to serve the remainder of his term on the Board of Directors of the Medical Society of South Carolina, even though he had resigned from the Board of Directors of Roper Health Services, Inc. This was voted in as a one time situation to keep Dr. Rivers on the Board of the Medical Society until his term expires in November 1990. There was also a presentation of Bylaws changes limiting the consecutive term of members of the Board of Directors to two five-year terms. This will be voted on at the May meeting.
