Special Meeting, Medical Society of South Carolina 8:00 P. M. Thursday, January 26, 1956 Medical Society Room, Roper Hospital Called to Order A special meeting to consider the newly revised "Rules and Regulations Governing The Attending Staff of Roper Hospital" was called to order by the President, Dr. Robert Wilson, at 8:05 P. M. Members The following members were present: Present 48 Anderson, Ball, Banov, Jr., Berry, Boone, Brooks, Brown, Buist, Cain, Cannon Coleman, deSaussure Evatt Hawk, T. G. Herbert, Hester, Kredel Linton, Lippincott, Lynch, Jr., D. L. Maguire, J. H. Marshall, J. B. Martin, Mayo, McInnes E. E. McKee, K. T. McKee, Miles, McK. P. Moore, M. S. Moore, Parker, Pettit, Duncan Pringle, Prioleau, B. O. Ravenel Rivers, Robertson, Siegling, B. S. Smith, Stallworth, Sughrue, Thomas J. M, Townsend van de Erve Waring, A. V. Williams, J. M. Wilson and Robert Wilson. Dr. J. I. Waring, acting for the Chairman of the Rules Committee presented the new "Rules and Regulations Governing The Attending Staff of Roper Hospital." Rules and Regulations Each Article of the rules were read separately and discussed. Certain changes in wording and definition were suggested by various members of the Society. The Society voted to recommit to the Rules Committee for consideration and review of the following sections of the document, 1) ARTICLE IV for clearer definition of the terms "Active Staff" and "Associate Staff" and of the duties and rights of members of these two divisions of the medical staff. 2) ARTICLE V for decision as to whether the department of Radiology should be designated a part of the Surgical Department or Medical Department or whether the Radiology Departnent should be a separate Department independent of the Medical and Surgical departments. 3) ARTICLE VI, Section 2, to include the infomation that the Tissue Committee is appointed by the president of the Staff In accordance with the requirements set forth by the Joint Committee on Accreditation of Hospitals of the American Hospital Association, the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association. 4) ARTICLE VII, Section 2. to require 75 per cent attendance at general staff meetings for members of the associate medical staff as well as the active medical staff. 5) ARTICLE IX, paragraph entitled "Visitors", to be rewritten and the paragraph entitled "X-Ray Department" to have the phrase "employed by" changed to a more suitable phrase such as "in attendance at" or "appointed by".
