He attended private schools in Summerville, the High School of Charleston, the College of Charleston, and the Medical College of South Carolina from which he graduated in 1901. His Internship was served at St. Francis Xavier Hospital, following which he entered private practice. In 1904 he became a member of the faculty of the Medical College and Professor of Bacteriology in 1909. He studied milk and meat sanitation in Philadelphia, rabies vaccine procedures in Now York and human and rat plague medicine in Now Orleans. He served as Secretary for the building committee of the Medical College In 1912, and was a member of the Board of Commissioners of Roper Hospital from 1916 to 1950, serving as Chairman of the Board from 1918 to 1948. He was also Treasurer of the Finance Committee of the Medical Society of South Carolina for many years. In 1917 he served as Chairman of a typhoid and malaria fever campaign supervising the drainage of mosquito brooding areas and the improvement of sanitation in the City. He was President of the Charleston County Tuberculosis Association from 1225 to 1936 and a member of the Building Committee for the Now Roper Hospital. He was a member and past President of the Medical Society of South Carolina and also a member of the Charleston County Medical Society. The South Carolina Medical Association and the American Medical Association. He was also a former President of the Widows and Orphans Society of Charleston. Of his many accomplishments and of the positions of honor and trust which he held his two especially noteworthy fields were his early pioneering in the development of vaccines to combat infections and allergies and his loyal devoted service to Roper Hospital and the Medical Society. Of these latter ones, too much cannot be said. Few men of the Profession have given so unstintedly of their time, efforts and talents to Roper Hospital and the Medical Society. Dr. Mood was a loyal friend, and ethical physician and a genial host His friends were many and in all walks of life, Be it therefore resolved that in the death of George McFarland Mood M.D., the profession, Roper Hospital, and the Society have lost a loyal devoted member and friend whose memory will be cherished in esteem and affection Be it further resolved that a page in the Minute Books of this Society be inscribed to his memory and a copy of these resolutions be sent to his family Signed.- T. Hutson Martin, MD. Chairman John P. Townsend MD Ben H. Boltjes, MD 2/14/57 -2-
