Regular Meeting Medical Society of South Carolina 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 28, 1984, Country Club of Charleston The regular meeting of the Medical Society of South Carolina was called to order by the President Dr. C. Ford Rivers, at 7:00 P. M. Tuesday, February 28, 1984, at the Country Club of Charleston. The following members were present: D. C. Appleby, A. T. Arnold, F. M. Ball, L. Banov, Jr., B. M. Barone, R. H. Belser, R. R. Bradham A. G. Brown, A. Cannon, P. S. Cromer, W. B. Crymes, G. W. Douglass, H. S. Ellison, M.C. Evans, F. S. Fairey, J. E. Gibbs, J. C. Hawk, Jr., T. G. Herbert, John Hood, Judith Hood, M. Hull, S. E. Izard, A. D. Lieberman, R. P. Linker, M. H. Lutz, R. D. Marshall, L. E. Mengedoht, John S. Metcalf, Margaret Metcalf, G. McF. Mood, W.J. Mood, H. E., R.E. Nickles, C. J. Owens, A. E. Rawl, F.E. Reed, J. T. Richards, H. W. Rittenberg, C. F. Rivers, W. B. Rumble, E. D. Rutland, J. R. Sosnowski, W. E. Tate, W. B. Thomason and J. M. Townsend. The following guests were present: Mr. Charles Menefee, Dr. Harriet Steinert and Dr. Reid Locklair.The Secretary read the minutes of the preceding meeting, the annual meeting, of November 22, 1983. These were accepted as read. Dr. Stephen Bielsky was proposed for membership and his application will be forwarded to the Board of Censors. Dr. Gerald J. Shealy and Dr. Richard H. Fitzgerald were unanimously elected to membership, their applications having been processed and approved by the Board of Censors. The President then announced that the Board of Commissioners as well as the Chairman of the Building and Repairs Committee had approved granting an easement to the South Carolina Department of Highways and Transportation for a right of way at the corner of Courtenay and Calhoun Streets as well as at Courtenay and Doughty Streets. It was felt that this approval was in the best interest of the hospital. This action was ratified by the Medical Society upon his recommendation. He also announced that Roper Hospital had let lapse its option for land East of the Cooper. This is the land described in the minutes of an earlier meeting in the recent past; there had been some controversy, which was brought out at the last meeting, over the use of this land by Roper Hospital. Dr. Bartolo M. Barone reported for Dr. Harold S. Pettit, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. His report is as follows 2/28/84 -1-
