The regular meeting of the Medical Society of South Carolina was called to order by the President, Dr. Julian T. Buxton, Jr., on Tuesday, February 25, 1986 AT THE Country Club of Charleston.

The minutes of the preceding meetings: annual meeting, November 26, 1985 and the special meeting, December 16, 1985 were read by the Secretary and approved by the Society.
The following candidates, having been approved by the Board of Censors, were elected to membership: Dr. C. E. Huggins, Dr. J. G. Simpson, Dr. R. T. Wall, Dr. B. B. Wannamaker, Dr. R. B. Locklair and Dr. Bertran Finch.
Dr. B. M. Barone, Chairman, reported for the Board of Commissioners as follows: He stated that the year to date average daily census was 300 patients a day and that the January average daily census for 1986 was 308 per day. He stated that the year to date net revenue was two million one hundred and sixty-three thousand four hundred and seventy three dollars. Approval had been given by the Board for the admission of Medicaid patients to Roper Hospital. He stated that a marketing plan was being developed by Administration and the Board. A new computer contract had been let. The new master plan for the application for a certificate of need for Roper-West Ashley had been changed to reduce the total number of requested beds from 125 to 100 and is to include a transfer of 100 beds from downtown to the new facility. He announced that the practical nursing school would be closed in March 1987. He described construction and renovation work in progress at the hospital. The parapet wall was being prepared between the old hospital and the east and south wings. Modernization was proceeding, including improvement, of private baths and patient accommodation. The lobby and public area is being renovated as was a new corridor. The north tower which was to be built was to include an oncology center, obstetrics, and other patient
