Boone Department of Medicine Medical College of The State of South Carolina Charleston 16, South Carolina Dear doctor Boone: I am replying to your letter of January eighteenth in regard to cur mutual friend, Dr. Horace Smithy. I have a treaa aeal of admiration for Dr. Smithy, and I am distressed to learn that ho is having increasing difficulty. I hope at some time that i or someone else mipht be in a position to do something for him, but I do not feel ccapetent to do it at the present time. I will discuss this problem with some of cur colleagues, but I am confident that I will be unwilling to attempt it without further work. Please remember me to Dr. Smithy, and I hope that advances will take place which will allow someone to attack this lesion. Very truly yours. Alfred Blalock, M.D.
