MEDICAL SOCIETY OF SOUTH CAROLINA QUARTERLY BUSINESS MEETING FEBRUARY 23, 1999 The Medical Society of South Carolina membership was held on Tuesday, February 23, 1999 at the Westin Francis Marion Hotel. I. Grier Linton, Jr., M.D., President, presided. MINUTES/MEDICAL SOCIETY OF SOUTH CAROLINA/QUARTERLY MEETING/FEBRUARY 23, 1999/PAGE ONE TOPIC DISCUSSION ACTION MINUTES A motion was made to accept the meeting minutes of November 24, 1999. Motion approved. The motion was seconded and approved. New Member Ballots - ballots were distributed to members at the sign-in PRESIDENT'S REPORT table. The votes were tallied and Drs. John A. Spratt and Stephen D. As information. Campbell were elected to active membership. CAREALLIANCE HEALTH Dr. Julian Buxton reported: SERVICES REPORT FROM THE a. Roper Rehabilitation Hospital received four commendations from As information. BOARD OF DIRECTORS the Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals on January 28-29, 1999. b. CareAlliance Parish Nursing will host and coordinate the Southeastern Parish Nurse Coordinators meeting in May 1999. c. Roper Lifelink is one of two hospital-based mobile intensive care units in South Carolina selected by DHEC to pilot a critical care paramedic training program. The new program is designed to develop advanced training criteria for paramedics who are for critically ill patients being tranported between facilities. CareAlliance completed a bond issue totaling $187.4 million in January 1999. The bond issue was divided into $145.9 million in fixed rate bonds and $41.5 million in variable rate bonds. Total savings were $7.2 million (NPV). $146 million of the issue was used to refund all outstanding debt for CareAlliance entities which included removing $52 million in Bon Secours St. Francis.
