MEMORANDUM
TO: Mr. William D. Huff
FROM: CWK Jr
At about 3:15, October 17, 1969, I received a phone call from within the institution
telling me that there would be a walk out of hospital non-professional employees.
The caller, whose voice I think I recognized did not know when the walk out would
be. I don't know the person's name who called but I think I can remember his face
from talking with him during the strike. In conversation with Arthur Williams, he
mentioned that he had been told also by several people that a walk out was imminent
In route to Doctor McCord's office to release this information to you or leave a
note for you, one of the security men stopped me and relayed the following information
to me: Mary Moultrie and fourteen others held a meeting in an empty room in the
Medical University building early this morning to discuss a walk out. Reasons
stated were, "Mary Moultrie was not rehired to the position she held when she first
went out on strike," "Somebody "Brown" who recently went through etnire grievance
channels but still lost her case, and was let go "and in support of the garbage strike."
The meeting, he was told, ended when someone at the meeting suggested they
meet with non-professionals from County Hospital. This meeting will be at 5 o'clock
this afternoon, either at Union Hall or in concjunction with the garbage meeting at 5
o'clock at the Baptist Church. I am not sure which Baptist Church.
It is my uneducated guess that this is a move to support the union representatives'
statement in the paper in which he stated we had not lived up to an agreement
concerning a check off and credit union. I may be wrong but I thought I would
let you know.
Mr. Ericson is aware of all of this and made several attempts this morning to
contact you concerning this matter.
