Abstract	Evoked potentials recorded fram the somatosenory receiving area of cat cortex were obtained when the cat was subjected to three treatments, namely general anaesthetic, loca:l anaesthetic, and lower spinal cord transection. Statistical multivariate classification techniques were utilized to classify average somatic evoked potentials. Various data transformations were investigated and applied prior to attempts at classification with the idea of selecting or emphasizing pertinent features of the data. It was found that in all instances, data transformations in the frequency domain were most effective in improving the results of classification. Additionally, linear gain functions between the compound action potential and the corresponding average evoked potential were calculated. No consistent differences in gain functions were observed over the three treatment groups.
