Abstract	The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of passive rhythmic rotation in promoting increased active range of motion. This study compares the results of passive rhythmic rotation to a control maneuver that does not include rotation. The motion at the hip joint for active straight leg raising is measured immediately before and after application of treatment. The difference in the goniometric measurements constitutes the data base for analysis. The subjects were forty normal males over eighteen years of age who volunteered to participate in this study. From the results of this study the following conclusions can be drawn: 1. Passive rhythmic rotation of the lower extremity increased active range of motion for straight leg raising. 2. Thirty seconds of treatment was not as effective as sixty. The longer duration of passive rhythmic rotation treatment increased active range of motion for straight leg raising. 3. There was no significant change in range of motion noted for control treatment for sixty seconds as compared to the control treatment for thirty seconds.
