Description |
Cutting tool:Tome:Valvulotome Heart valvulotome with a brass handle and steel probe. The Valvulotome was designed by Dr. Horace Smithy, who at the time was part of the MUSC faculty and made by C.B. Coleman. In 1948 Smithy used the instrument to perform a successful mitral valvulotomy on a young woman who suffered from complications of rheumatic valve disease, specifically mitral stenosis. 1.5x9x3 |
